Soothes Tired Muscles & Uplifts the Mind

DIRECTED BY LEIF RAMSEY

THE MISSION

Elevate the look & feel of Dr Teal’s and build a library of new digital ads for social campaigns.

THE RESULT

Collaborating with The Sasha Group, we produced bite-sized ads for Dr Teal’s® 2020 social campaign — ten :06 spots and three :15 spots.

Dr Teal’s :06s

If you walk into your local Target or Walmart, you’ll find the beckoning blue & white label of Dr Teal’s® Epsom salts. And for good reason — a soak with Dr Teal’s® soothes tired muscles and uplifts the mind.

The production included both stills and video; and was filmed on location in Tennessee. Ursula Wiedmann Models, based in Atlanta, provided talent.

How we elevated the ads

Shot-for-shot, here’s how we elevated the videos:

  • Skin is semi-translucent; we used big lighting fixtures so that skin would glow.

  • We shot on the same lenses that Roger Deakins used for the movie “1917” — ARRI Signature Primes — creating a light, airy look with smooth skin tones and no distracting flares.

  • Adding atmosphere softens the light and gives a warm, alive feel, even in stilllifes.

  • To make skin tones pop and natural textures come to life, we simplified color palettes in the locations, set dressing, and wardrobe.

  • Kept the camera in motion and featured background action in product shots.

  • Edited on set, so we could make tweaks and refinements to the final edits in real time.

The Making Of

Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither is a commercial. There’s director’s treatments, casting, shot lists, location scouting, lighting, and set design. Now for the fun part—filming!

Behind-the-scenes photography provided by the talented and kind Reed Schick.
